Facing infertility can make you feel overwhelmed, confused and disappointed.
I am here to tell you it is completely natural and just what makes you human!
Why do we feel overwhelmed when it comes to infertility? The short answer is that infertility is not something that can be understood with words alone. It is a feeling we have inside us and until we give that feeling space, we cannot start the healing.
Infertility is not a diagnosis or a disease as it can go away at any time.
Infertility is not something that you can easily heal with a magic pill.
Infertility is not something that your partner/mother can fully understand.
Infertility is not something you can talk with everyone about.
Infertility is not something you can ignore.
Becoming a mom is something that is imprinted in our genetic code. Longing for a child is an emotion coming from deep inside us, and that feeling can be overwhelming. Accepting that feeling and acknowledging the longing can help you stay calm while you figure out your path to parenthood.
Before we were human-beings we were part of a bigger family called the animal kingdom. It is not surprising, since we do have so many things in common with the family members of the apes. The Reproductive-System, for example, is one of them. Our Reproductive System is very similar to the apes’ system. We both long to have that baby. It is a very strong feeling that the human “thinking-brain” cannot explain with words. It is coming from the subconscious and it can be very intense.
Sometimes infertility will make you feel more, go deep and on the way, get to know you and your partner a little bit better. In a way, it is preparing you for parenthood. In order to overcome infertility you will need to see yourself, your true self, maybe for the first time, and be active about what you see and feel.
Understanding your pain and where it is coming from, can give you relief. Ignoring that pain, on the other hand, can activate stress and in extreme situations anxiety.
It is well known by now that stress/anxiety can inhibit the reproductive system. Giving space to those feelings and accepting them as part of the human experience can help you feel more calm, reduce your stress level and allow your hormones and menstrual cycle to secrete more regularly.
I recommend finding a support group, a good, compassionate friend, a Fertility-Consultant, like me, or any empty page where you can express those strong feelings freely and safely. This will help you keep the stress and anxiety that are associated with infertility in check.
